Moving Direct Debits between two Halifax accounts – possible?

First Post

Can I swap direct debits from one of my Halifax accounts (Ultimate Reward) to another (Current), or do they need to be cancelled and set up again from scratch.

If so, will the bank take care of this if I ask them or will I have to contact each company my account has a DD relationship with and get them to take action?

Normally you would contact the company who the direct debit is payable to , to amend any bank details as they are the ones who request payment from the bank via the direct debit.

Thanks for the reply helptoyou.

Any idea how long it would take them to move it to the new account?

The reason I ask is that I’m just about to move to the new Santander 123 account, but realized that my Halifax current account (which is what I’m moving from) doesn’t have any direct debits on it, so thought I might be able to quickly bump some DD’s from my Halifax Ultimate Reward account on to the Halifax Current.

If there will be a significant delay moving a DD, I might as well wait until the Santander account is open and just shift them directly from the Halifax Ultimate Reward.

Any thoughts on this?

The quickest way is to do it yourself.

When a bank does it for you it is basically the same as when you do it yourself other than rather than phoning the supplier there is a process using the BACS company which sends the updated details to the vendor for them to update their system.
